Slag cutting remains one of the most memorable case among the many special material cutting requests Cosen has encountered.

Our customer is a coal chemicals and fine carbon material producing subsidiary of Taiwan's largest steel plant located in Kaohsiung. Two large capacity cutting machines are required to saw their slag.

Based on the customer's requirements, a vertical plate saw is planned to perform longitudinal cutting, and another horizontal bandsaw of 1M width capacity sits on the same line to perform cross-cutting. The plate saw sits lower in a pre-excavated cellar to have its workbed as high as that of the horizontal bandsaw, making rigging and material handling easier and safer. Securing slags and minimizing vibrations during cutting is also an important discussion point during our communications with the customer.

Last but not least, due to the complex composition of the slag, as it may contain unknown metals or even magnesium, sparks may occur. To protect operators, a booth containing the control station was built as well as machine safety against sparkles was taken into consideration during design phase.
